Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday - Unicorn Keep

Image
Welcome to my Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday snippet. You can read other #sffsat snippts here. Unicorn Keep is a young adult fantasy romance about a girl who swaps places with her best friend to become a unicorn keeper. This scene is shortly after last week, back in Jiline's POV, and after she gets back from the unicorn valley. *** The spots stopped dancing in front of her eyelids and she slowly opened them to see two pairs of shoes standing in front of her. Carefully raising her head, her brain was foggy and didn’t quite register that Herrick was Mage Herrick despite his robes. Then it hit her - Mage Herrick. She jumped up and swayed, trying to remember exactly how she was supposed to greet a mage who addressed her. “Sit,” he commanded and stepped forward to nudge her down into the chair. “Get her some water.” Jiline closed her eyes and decided not to worry about what she was supposed to do. She had a right to be completely and utterly confused not to mention ove

Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday - Unicorn Keep

Welcome to my Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday snippet. You can read other #sffsat snippts here. Unicorn Keep is a young adult fantasy romance about a girl who swaps places with her best friend to become a unicorn keeper. Adding a note for clarification: This scene is from the POV of Herrick, the other main character, and takes place while Jiline is down in the unicorn valley for the first time. His mother is the mage in charge of the Keep.  *** His mother's hands moved in a soothing gesture. “Besides there could be several trainees in that slice of woods. We don’t know if it is just her.” He sliced the air with his own hand to cut off the incantation she was attempting to weave around him. Slamming his hands against the wall, he attempted to shatter it with a magical blow, but it bounced back. Helplessness filled him. He shook off her hand and bolted for the door that would lead him inside the Keep. There was more than one way to the trailhead.  He slammed into

Horse Charmer One Year Anniversary

Image
Horse Charmer has been available now for one year as an ebook. As with Jumping Thoughts , I wanted to do a blog post going over how things went for the year and see if I could make any conclusions by looking back at sales and other information. Horse Charmer was released on May 16, 2011 through Amazon, B&N, and Smashwords. It was also distributed to other e-retailers, but didn't appear in those stores until June. So I went back and look at my sales. Over one year, I sold 99 copies of the e-version (the print version came out in September, but I'm not counting those sales toward this post). My highest selling month was January with 15 e-copies. My second highest selling month was December with 11 e-copies. I attribute these sales to Christmas e-reader gifts and gift cards. I didn't do any release promo beyond Facebook, Twitter, and a few writer BB announcements when it first released. I never got any pro reviews for it. I have recently been using it as a giv

Welcome to my Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday snippet. You can read other #sffsat snippts here. Unicorn Keep is a young adult fantasy romance about a girl who swaps places with her best friend to become a unicorn keeper. *** Jiline slid down the final few steps of the steep path. The little meadow was crowded with the trainees. Keeper Kellye cupped her hands together. “The unicorns will seek you out if they approve of you. If you don’t see a unicorn we will test you again in the spring. If a unicorn charges you, run for your life. We will be watching.” The two keepers entered the woods in front of her. Somehow she doubted the unicorns were at all tempted to step foot in this crowded clearing so she walked forward to follow the keepers into the woods. *** Available as an ebook from Amazon , Barnes and Noble , and Smashwords . Available in print from Create Space , Amazon .

Unicorn Keep is a young adult fantasy romance about a girl who swaps places with her best friend to become a unicorn keeper. *** “Your family sent you alone,” Herrick said. Of course they had, they had believed she was traveling on a well-traveled road to the closest city with Wilm as her escort. But she didn’t say that. Instead, she sat up taller. “You’re traveling alone.” “I’m not a child.”   She glared at him. “I’m not a child either.” “You couldn’t be more than fifteen.”   Her irritation grew at his accurate guess.   *** Available as an ebook from Amazon , Barnes and Noble , and Smashwords . Available as a print book from Create Space and Amazon .
